Paris 2024 Olympic Games: A France-Denmark shock at the start… The draw for the men’s handball tournament

Here they are fixed. The French handball players, who will defend their Olympic title this summer, now know against which opponents this quest will begin. The draw, carried out this Tuesday at the Maison du handball in Créteil, placed Argentina, Egypt, Hungary, Norway and Denmark on their path.

The 12 teams qualified for the 2024 Olympics are divided into two groups of six. After facing each opponent in the first round in Paris, the best four teams will qualify for the quarter-finals and participate in the knockout phase which will determine the final winner at the Pierre-Mauroy stadium in Villeneuve-d’Ascq (North) .

The draw was made by the former captain of the French women’s team Siraba Dembélé.

As host country, France was able to choose which group it wanted to play in. After stepping aside for a few minutes to make his choice, the Blues coach, Guillaume Gille, opted for group B.

Nikola Karabatic, who will end his career in Paris, and his teammates are aiming for a fourth Olympic title. European champion in January, they are favorites just like the French women’s team. On the way to a new double in handball?

Group A: Japan, Sweden, Germany, Croatia, Spain, Slovenia

Group B: Argentina, Egypt, Hungary, Norway, Denmark, France
