Palmira Shines as the Epicenter of National Judo: Highlights from the ‘Mega National Judo Event 2024’

From April 8 to 15, Palmira became the epicenter of national judo by hosting the ‘Mega National Judo Event 2024’, at the ‘Ramón Elías López’ Coliseum, in the Imder-Palmira. With this event, Palmira consolidates its position as a privileged destination for holding major sporting events.

According to the Colombian Judo Federation, Fecoljudo, which widely highlighted Palmira as a sports destination, this event served as preparation and preselection for judokas who will participate in international events in these categories.

With the participation of 529 athletes representing 16 leagues from all over the country, the event was not only a sporting spectacle but also a testimony to the talent and dedication of Colombian judokas.

Among the competitors, a group of 18 Palmyra residents joined the contest, demonstrating their skill and passion for this sport. The event was divided into several categories, from Under-11 to seniors.

In the Under-13 category, for example, Alison Pineda won the gold medal, closely followed by Antwan Romero, who took the silver medal. In Under-15, Jhonatan Melo and Daniel Palomino shared the gold, while Javier Suaza took the bronze and Johan Ramos reached fourth place.

In the Cadet category, Samuel Millán won silver, while John Caicedo and Zurly Rivas took gold. Daniel Ortiz completed the podium with the bronze medal. In the Junior category, Tania Murillo, Sara Yandun and Maira Solis shone by each winning a gold medal.

In the senior category, the outstanding judoka Luisa Bonilla demonstrated her ability by obtaining the gold medal. David Bohórquez and John Caicedo won a silver medal, Tania Murillo and Elmer Orejuela won bronze, and Juan Felipe Montealegre took fifth place.

Valle del Cauca stood out in all categories of the ‘Mega National Judo Event 2024’, leading the medal table and demonstrating its dominance in national judo. Palmyra athletes also left their mark, contributing with their talent and effort to this high-level contest in martial arts.

With this Mega Event, Palmira consolidates its position as a privileged destination for holding major sporting events at the national level, promoting the development of judo and fostering passion for sport in the region.
