Former Munich CEO Oliver Kahn (54) can well imagine coach Julian Nagelsmann returning to FC Bayern.
“Why shouldn’t he return to FC Bayern one day after he has had more experience? That was the case with some Bayern coaches, especially Jupp Heynckes, but also Giovanni Trapattoni and Ottmar Hitzfeld, who, however, came to Bayern Munich at a more mature age have returned,” said Kahn in the current interview with “Sport Bild”.
Nagelsmann is the top candidate in Munich
Nagelsmann is currently the national coach and still has a contract until after the European Championships in the summer. But his name is mentioned again and again when it comes to the successor to Thomas Tuchel at FC Bayern. The German football record champions had agreed with Tuchel to end the contract, which was actually dated until the end of June 2025, this summer.

“It says a lot when one of the most sought-after coaches in Europe, who led a star-studded team to the Champions League final in Paris and won the Champions League with Chelsea, is struggling with so many difficulties in Munich.” said Kahn about Tuchel. The Munich team were prematurely dethroned by Bayer Leverkusen last weekend after eleven championships in a row.
Kahn, a former Munich goalkeeper, was CEO of FC Bayern for almost two years from summer 2021. The early separation from Nagelsmann in March 2023 also occurred during his time. Tuchel became his successor.

“We saw our sporting success at risk at the time and therefore made this decision, which was definitely not an easy one. We weren’t able to win three titles, but we still became German champions,” said Kahn. “I’ve said many times that I thought it was really bad how this decision was implemented. It didn’t go well and that still bothers me today.”
