Novak Djokovic Wins Fifth Laureus Award for Best Male Athlete of 2023

The Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic won this Monday, April 22 the Laureus award for the best athlete of the year 2023 in the world, the fifth time he has achieved this award.

The number one in the world collected the trophy from the hands of former American football player Tom Brady, after winning the Laureus Academy vote over the footballers Lionel Messi, from Argentina, and Erling Haaland, from Norway, the Swedish pole vaulter Mondo Duplantis, American athlete Noah Lyles and Dutch driver Max Verstappen, the other candidates.

In the three most recent editions, those honored with this award for the best male athlete had been Lionel Messi (gala 2023), Max Verstappen (2022) and Rafael Nadal (2021).

Djokovic, who this week was withdrawn from the Madrid Masters 1000, He already won the Laureus in 2012, 2015, 2016 and 2019.
