Ninon Tailly Makes Mark at World Championships: A Fifth Place Finish

It was a baptism of fire for her. Selected with the French parajudo team for her first world championships, which took place in Turkestan, Kazakhstan, Ninon Tailly, 19, finished fifth in the -78 kg category this Saturday, April 13.

Graduated from AJ Châteauroux, this Staps student in Orléans started judo when she was 3 years old in Déols. The age when this fighter became hard of hearing. At the Castelroussin club since she was 8 years old, she participated in the French junior championships at the beginning of March, before learning of her selection for this world event.

A Saturday where Ninon will have had to fight three times. Directly qualified for the quarter-finals, she won against a Ukrainian by ippon. An opponent against whom the judokate lost at the European Deaf Championships, almost a year ago, in Bulgaria.

“I’m pretty proud”

In the semi-final, Ninon Tailly met a Kazakh fighter and against whom she lost. A defeat which sent him to the tatami for one last fight, with a bronze medal up for grabs. Facing her, a Korean judoka, against whom the Tricolor unfortunately can do nothing.

In the end, a fifth place which, however, does not leave too bitter a taste for this young black belt judokate: “I felt happy to be here, to participate in such a great competition despite my young age. I was stressed about the issue at first. But then the stress gave way to adrenaline. Once I arrived at the competition venue, I entered a bubble. There is of course frustration, because finishing fifth in judo means losing the fight that allows you to get on the podium. At the same time, I’m quite proud, because it was a first for me at this level. This experience allowed me to calibrate myself and to have a very strong desire to experience this type of world event again in the future”commented the Indrian.
