Niklas Weitzbauer came second in the Austrian championship. Hozan Arslan and Alexander Vrabetz narrowly missed out on a medal.

Austria’s young judoka fought for the medals in the U16 and U21 age groups in Krems. The athletes from the Wimpassing performance center were also there. In the U21, Niklas Weitzbauer narrowly missed the championship title. In the weight class up to 90 kilograms he won early in the preliminary round with Ippon. In the final he was in the lead against Anatoli Beziazychenko. But an ippon counterattack ended up costing them the title. Nevertheless, the silver finish is Weitzbauer’s best result at national championships to date.

The U18 runner-up Hozan Arslan started this competition one age group higher, which also meant an age difference of up to three years. Arslan was able to achieve a total of three secure victories. However, he had to narrowly admit defeat in the semi-finals and in the bronze fight. The end result was an ungrateful fifth place.

Vrabetz missed another medal coup

In the U16, Alexander Vrabetz, who won the silver medal in this class last year, was fully on course for a medal. However, after two Ippon victories, he was no longer able to match his performance from the preliminary round in the semi-finals and in the fight for bronze and ultimately had to settle for fifth place.

The other Wimpassinger fighters Ilvie Brunner (U16/up to 48 kilos), Yurik Hakobjan (U16/up to 50 kilos), Konstantin Pacher (U16/up to 73 kilos), Christian Greiner (U21/up to 81 kilos) achieved partial success, for one However, placement was not enough this time.
