NHL: Moritz Seider and the Detroit Red Wings lose overtime thriller

The Detroit Red Wings around runner-up Moritz Seider suffered a defeat in the race for the NHL play-off places.

The team from Michigan lost to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Friday night (April 12th, 2024) after a hard fight 5:6 after overtime, but at least secured one point.

Their direct opponent Pittsburgh moved up to the hard-fought second wild card spot, but Detroit remains in the race.

“Did a great job”

“The boys did a great job,” said Red Wings coach Derek Lalonde: “Because of this point, there is still a way there.”

Erik Karlsson scored the decisive goal 1:40 into overtime after Sidney Crosby’s 1,000th NHL assist. Seider had previously also provided an assist for a goal.

Victories for Peterka and Sturm

National player John-Jason Peterka’s Buffalo Sabers helped Detroit with a 4-2 win against the Washington Capitals, who are also still fighting for the wild card chance.

Nico Sturm celebrated a 3-1 win with the San Jose Sharks against the Seattle Kraken, where goalie Philipp Grubauer was not used.
