The NBA suspended Toronto Raptors player Jontay Porter for life on Wednesday after a league investigation found he leaked confidential information to sports bettors and bet on games.

Porter, the league said, relayed information about his own health to a punter before the Raptors’ March 20 game. The league added that another individual, who is known for placing bets on NBA games, bet $80,000 that Porter would not meet targets that had been set for him on a sports betting website. . This bet would have earned him $1.1 million.

Porter left that game after only a few minutes of play, citing discomfort, which meant he would not hit the targets that had been set for him in the sportsbooks. This bet was suspended and the amount was not paid to the bettor, while the NBA launched an investigation into this story.

“There is nothing more important than protecting the integrity of the NBA for our fans, our teams and everyone associated with our sport. “That’s why Jontay Porter’s egregious violations against our sporting regulations have resulted in the harshest sanction,” said NBA Commissioner Adam Silver.

Porter is the brother of Denver Nuggets forward Michael Porter Jr.
