NBA Star Blake Griffin Retires After 14-Year Career

Blake Griffin announced his retirement Thursday after a 14-year career that included six All-Star selections, Rookie of the Year honors and a dunk contest victory.

In a social media post he said he is “grateful for every moment” of his career. Griffin was the Los Angeles Clippers’ first pick out of Oklahoma in 2009. He missed his first season with a knee injury, but recovered to be named Rookie of the Year in 2011, the year he won the contest. of dunks.

Along with Chris Paul and DeAndre Jordan, his plays helped rejuvenate the Clippers to earn the nickname “Lob City.” In the 2018 season he was sent to the Detroit Pistons when his skills began to decline and injuries increased.

Griffin, 35, also played with Brooklyn and Boston. He averaged 19 points and 8 rebounds in his career and was third in MVP voting behind Kevin Durant and LeBron James in 2013-14.

“I appreciate every moment — not just the good ones: the wins, the awards, the dunks and the memorable time I spent with my family, friends, fans, teammates and coaches,” he posted on Instagram, thanking his family and his agent Sam Goldfeder. “I am equally grateful for the not-so-good moments: the defeats, the multiple surgeries, the lessons, the suffering, and it wouldn’t be a retirement letter if I didn’t acknowledge those who hated me.”

“All of the experiences made my 14 years in the league truly memorable, and I can’t help but feel grateful.”
