The top 4 in the West

– Denver took sole control of the Western Conference with two matches remaining. The defending champions won the game they needed, at home against Minnesota, to position themselves on the royal road. Trailing in the first half, the Nuggets relied on Nikola Jokic, who put out a performance against one of the best defenses in the league and in particular the possible future DPoY Rudy Gobert (13 pts, 15 rebounds). The Joker scored 41 points at 16/20, 11 rebounds and 7 assists for a remarkable performance a few days before the closing of votes for the MVP.

The Wolves lost their footing after the break, notably Anthony Edwards (25 pts), who completely disappeared in the 4th quarter.

– Because of this defeat, Minnesota even returned to 3rd, behind OKC, which logically won at home against San Antonio, where Victor Wembanyama had been left to rest. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 26 points in 26 minutes and the Thunder didn’t have to force it.

The rest of the West

– There will be a reunion between the Mavs and the Clippers in the 1st round, since the two teams can only finish 5th and 6th, without us yet knowing in what order:

  • Dallas walked Miami, with 29 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists Luka Doncic and 25 points Kyrie Irving for a 16th victory in the last 18 matches. Kyrie also validated a bonus of 1 million dollars provided for in his contract: he had to play at least 50 matches in a season where Dallas reached 50 victories
  • The Clippers completely fell asleep during their back-to-back against the Suns. While the match was close, the Californians let go in the 4th quarter and Phoenix finished with a 23-2 to take revenge for the previous day’s thrashing against this same team. The Clippers were playing without Kawhi Leonard, James Harden, Paul George and Russell Westbrook, which is obviously the beginning of an explanation, but Bones Hyland took charge (37 pts) for a while. Opposite, the Durant-Beal-Booker trio compiled 80 of Phoenix’s 124 points.

To the East

– Milwaukee made a brave face against bad luck, after learning that Giannis Antetokounmpo would no longer play in the regular season. The Bucks inflicted a second defeat in a row on Orlando to consolidate their 2nd place and push the Magic back to 5th. Bobby Portis had a big game with 30 points, 9 rebounds and 5 steals, Damian Lillard contributing 29 points and 9 assists, in a game rather well controlled by Doc Rivers’ players.

– If Orlando, which is sticking its tongue out at the end of the season, has returned to 5th, it is because the Cavs logically won at home against Memphis. Donovan Mitchell, who is looking to regain his sensations before the start of the playoffs, scored 29 points and 8 assists, for what was only his 10th game since February 15. Fourth in the East for the moment, Cleveland has had a tough time with 11 defeats in the last 17 matches.

– Atlanta did not take advantage of the fact that the Bulls were not playing that night, nor of the return of Trae Young, to move up to 9th. The Hawks lost by one point at home against Charlotte, notably due to a game winner from Miles Bridges with 3.8 seconds remaining. Young played 21 minutes for 14 points and 11 assists, after missing his team’s last 23 games.

– In a match between dull teams at the end of the season, the Nets took over the Raptors, thanks in particular to Cam Thomas’ 23 points and Dennis Schröder’s 15 points in the 4th quarter, last year’s MVP. World Cup.
