NBA Legend Rajon Rondo Retires from Basketball Courts at 38

Rajon Rondo (38 years old and 1.85 m) announced this Tuesday his retirement from the basketball courts. The legendary point guard, champion of two NBA rings (Celtics and Lakers), was currently without a team. He played his last game on April 10, 2022 with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The one from Kentucky made his goodbye official on the podcast directed by Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson (All The Smoke) claiming that he wanted to spend time with his children and that his life had been about ups and downs.

“Yes, I’m done. I want to spend time with my children. It has been a fantastic time, I appreciate the brotherhood I have had with my teammates, bonding and learning over the years and that they have made me the man I am today. Ups and downs, it’s been a part of my life,” Rondo said.

Chosen at number 21 in the 2006 draft, he has played for nine teams in total: Boston Celtics, Dallas Mavericks, Sacramento Kings, Chicago Bulls (where he met Nikola Mirotic), New Orleans Pelicans, Los Angeles Lakers, Atlanta Hawks, Los Angeles Clippers and Cleveland Cavaliers, his last team. Rondo was always described as a great teammate in the locker room. As a veteran he was a great mentor to the League’s young players.

The winner of two NBA rings with the Celtics and the Lakers announced his departure after almost two years without setting foot on the court and after being arrested at the beginning of the year in Indiana for possession of drugs and weapons. 16 seasons and 1,903 games including the regular season and playoffs, the one from Louisville says goodbye to the world of basketball having won individual titles as the NBA’s top assistant (three times), NBA’s best thief (once) and after being selected four times for the All Star.

“For me, when I entered this sport, it was not a matter of money, the important thing was the time you dedicated to it in the summer. You had to work, getting here was not a dream, it was a goal. Stay disciplined during college, sacrifice to get there. “I understand what it has cost me and luckily I have been surrounded by the right people who have helped me get to the right place,” she said.

The point guard leaves with an average in the regular season of 9.8 points per game, 4.5 rebounds and 7.9 assists. In his last game with Cleveland against the Milwaukee Bucks, he played 24:35. He says goodbye as one of the best assistants in the NBA with 7,584 basket passes during his career, placing him 15th in the historical ranking.
