At the initiative of composer Yann Robin, the Multilateral Ensemble offers an original show which combines music and judo in a production by Ludovic Lagarde.

This is also the meaning of the codification by Jigorō Kanō, at the end of the 19th century, of the movements of modern judo, which allow transmission beyond the first work of imitation and initial repetition – therefore at the intersection of written traditions. and oral. Yann Robin, himself a judoka, had the idea of ​​bringing together the two arts by proposing five musical creations which would accompany the creation of juiceforms combining judo techniques in a very precise manner.

Precision and fluidity

For this project, Yann Robin called on two Japanese composers. Misato Mochizuki (born in 1969) has often sought inspiration for her music in other artistic universes if not in life itself. Why not then this Nage no kata, projection techniques that require as much precision as fluidity? Noriko Baba (born in 1972) often associates her music with movement, particularly with theater. still (they are « nōpéra » AOI was created here in 2016). Besides Yann Robin (born in 1974), who makes energy – the central element of martial arts – the driving force behind his music, the two other French composers invited, both born in 1980, were very marked by their life experience. in Japan. Aurélien Dumont, author of works mixing Japanese and Western instruments, inherits the Goshin Jutsu, collection of defense techniques. As for Yves Chauris, he brought back from his residence at Villa Kujoyama, in 2011, his very beautiful second quartet Shakkei, inspired by the “borrowed landscapes” of Japanese gardens. On stage, five musicians from the Multilateral Ensemble will resonate the notes with the juice practiced by judokas Stephen Roulin and Antoine Bidault.
