Maverick Vinales won the third MotoGP World Championship round in Austin, USA, despite a bad start and took the double after his sprint victory the day before. The Aprilia rider beat MotoGP newcomer Pedro Acosta (ESP) on Sunday – the 19-year-old KTM rider continues to have a strong presence in MotoGP. The Italian Enea Bastianini came third ahead of his Ducati brand colleague Jorge Martin from Spain, who is leading in the World Championship.

Vinales got off to a bad start from pole position, but fought his way to the front from ninth position. He was the first pilot to win MotoGP races for three different manufacturers. World champion Francesco Bagnaia (ITA/Ducati) came fifth. Marc Marquez (ESP/Ducati) dropped out with ten laps to go while leading the race.

Vinales explained that he felt the support. “It was spectacular. I made history.” Acosta spoke of an “incredible” race. “I enjoyed the overtaking maneuvers. That was a lot of fun.” The Spaniard had previously won victories in the premier class with Suzuki and Yamaha.
