Anja Friedrich traveled as a one-woman team on the 6th/7th. April to Vienna to take part in the 11th International Vienna Masters Championships in the Florisdorf indoor swimming pool together with her daughter Anna, who is currently competing for ASV Vienna. In addition to numerous local clubs, an interesting field of participants attracted swimmers from Germany, Spain, Ukraine, Romania, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Italy, Switzerland, Cyprus and even Canada to the Austrian capital on the Danube.
For the approximately 250 participants with more than 1,000 entries, in addition to national and international rankings, the 50 m and 100 m distances were considered the Vienna championship, while the distances from 200 m were advertised as the Austrian championship.
Although she wasn’t always completely satisfied with her performance, Anja was able to compete in the 50 m butterfly (0:34.84), 100 m butterfly (1:16.92), 200 m butterfly (2:51.95) and 50 m backstroke (0:37.32) achieved the fastest time in the AK 55.
The former RWL swimmer Anna Rademann née Friedrich (born 1998/AK 25) surprised everyone with interesting times over the three butterfly distances (50 m 0:29.82, 100 m 1:07.49, 200 m) after a break of several years from training and competition 2:39.13) as well as the shorter freestyle races (0:28.79 and 1:02.43 respectively). She was unbeatable across all butterfly routes in her age group.
In addition to the age-dependent rankings, the three best performances per route (according to the FINA table, which is based on the world records of the Masters age groups as a reference value) were also awarded. Anja achieved the highest (100 m) and second highest (200 m) points of the event over the butterfly distances. Since Anna not only achieved the points record in the 50 m butterfly, but also achieved the third best performance over twice the distance, it was a joyful and emotional event that mother and daughter stood together on the winner’s podium at the award ceremony for the 100 m butterfly.
