MLS: Lionel Messi scores with Inter Miami for his return from injury

A remarkable return. After almost three weeks spent away from the field due to a hamstring injury, Lionel Messi played again on the night of Saturday to Sunday with Inter Miami against the Colorado Rapids. If the Argentinian took a little time to get into his match, he was decisive in the second half. Taking advantage of a cross from his compatriot Franco Negri, Messi took the ball back with first intention with the flat of his foot, just at the edge of the area, to equalize at 1-1 (58th).

Mixed results for Miami after 8 games

The 2022 world champion’s goal, however, did not allow Miami to win on home soil. The Floridians took the lead straight away thanks to Leonardo Alfonso’s goal (2-1, 60th), but Cole Bassett’s reaction helped the Rapids to snatch a draw (2-2, 88th). After 8 matches, Miami is in provisional third place in the Eastern Conference with a record of three wins, three draws and two defeats. The Floridians’ next match will be in Monterrey (Mexico), in the quarter-final second leg of the Concacaf Champions Cup. Miami lost 2-1 in the first leg.
