MLB Launches ‘Pitch, Hit & Run’ Initiative in San Juan, Puerto Rico

San Juan Puerto Rico – Major League Baseball (MLB), in collaboration with the Commissioner’s office and the MLB Development Department in Puerto Rico, has announced the launch of its ‘Pitch, Hit & Run’ initiative on the island, scheduled to begin this summer . This free event is designed to encourage young Puerto Ricans to stay active and learn the disciplines of baseball and softball.

The competition, which is open to boys and girls ages 7 to 14, is divided into four age categories and tests specific skills: throwing control, hitting strength and running speed. The winners of each category in the local events will advance to the Puerto Rico Finals, scheduled for early August.

The victors in the Puerto Rican finals will have the opportunity to compete on the national stage of the United States during the celebration of the 2024 World Series. The national champions will enjoy an all-inclusive trip with a companion to participate in the prestigious event.

The ‘Pitch, Hit & Run’ events will take place from mid-May to the end of July, with competitions in several municipalities including Sabana Grande, Salinas, Maunabo, Guánica, Florida and Mayagüez, among others. The final is set to begin on August 6.

MLB also invites directors of baseball and softball leagues that serve youth ages 7 to 14 to participate in and host these Major League-caliber events.
