As the song says: Take me to the baseball game.

Major League Baseball announced Monday that Saturday saw the largest single-day attendance in April outside of opening week in eight years.

Saturday’s 16 games drew 540,363 fans, the highest number since 555,948 people attended 16 games on April 23, 2016.

Not only that, but the weekend’s total attendance of 1,460,736 fans across 46 Friday-Sunday games was the best April weekend (excluding opening weekends) since 2017.

Some of the fans who filled the stadiums from Friday to Sunday to create these historic numbers also had the opportunity to witness a bit of history on the field.

On Friday, Braves catcher Travis d’Arnaud hit three home runs, including a grand slam, to lead the team to an 8-3 victory over the Rangers in Atlanta. It was d’Arnaud’s second three-homer game, making him just the third catcher with multiple three-homer performances, joining Johnny Bench and Gary Carter.

Then on Sunday, fans at Dodger Stadium watched Shohei Ohtani hit his 176th career home run in a 10-0 victory over the Mets, becoming the all-time major league home run leader among Japanese-born players.
