Michaela Polleres and Aaron Fara: A Dynamic Duo at the Olympics?

In 2021, Michaela Polleres was the only JC Wimpassing fighter at the Olympic Games. Three years later, the silver medalist from Tokyo could get male support because her club colleague Aaron Fara also has good chances in qualifying.

The 26-year-old is currently in 16th place in the Olympic rankings. On the deadline (June 25th), Fara has to be among the top 17 in the weight class up to 100 kilograms in order to secure his starting place in Paris, although the rankings will be cleaned up before that. Each nation is only allowed to send one starter per weight class. “Two who are placed in front of him are still out,” explains coach Adi Zeltner, explaining that Fara is actually in 14th place.

Starting place also possible via continental quota

But even if Fara falls behind decisively, there is still a back door to Paris. The 13 Europeans with the highest points (all weight classes are added together in this ranking) receive a continental quota place, and this means that three Europeans who are outside the adjusted top 17 are currently qualified in Fara’s weight class.

While Fara is still fighting for his debut at the Olympic Games, Polleres has already secured her starting place in the up to 70 kilogram class. “Michi is quick. Now it’s a matter of seeding from one to eight.” Polleres is currently in fifth place in the Olympic rankings.
