Michael Stich on Saturday in Munich

President Dan Faber, who came especially for the event, presented the piece of jewelry set with an emerald on Saturday on the Center Court of the MTTC Iphitos facility, which the 55-year-old Stich described as his “sporting home.” Stich was allowed to choose the place of handover himself.

“I always tend to be someone who is more moved when it comes to stories like this. I’m not that emotionless,” said the Wimbledon champion from 1991 in singles and 1992 in doubles with John McEnroe. Stich, who was also the 1992 Olympic doubles champion with Boris Becker, had already been accepted into the “HoF” in Newport, Rhode Island, in 2018, but the handover of the ring had been delayed until now due to the corona pandemic.

However, Stich has now lost another piece of memorabilia. The racket with which he won the final against Becker in three sets at Wimbledon in 1991 (6:4, 7:6, 6:4) was “stolen” from him, he reported after his award. However, he did not want to reveal how and where. “It’s enough shit to be stolen,” he said with a smile.
