The MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg basketball players missed out on reaching the semi-finals of the FIBA Basketball Champions League. On Tuesday, the basketball Bundesliga team also lost the second game of the quarter-final series against UCAM Murcia at home, in the end the score was 72:85 (37:47). The teams that are the first to win two playoff series in the European Cup will qualify for the final tournament in Belgrade at the end of the month.

As in the first quarter-final game, Murcia got off to a better start, but Ludwigsburg still showed improvement. Returnee Ariel Hukporti in particular held his own: The 21-year-old, who is said to have NBA potential, made his debut after moving from Australia and performed strongly near the basket. At the quarter break the hosts were still behind 20:25.

In the second half, the guests repeatedly extended their lead into double figures. The Ludwigsburg defense didn’t win a single ball in the first half, Murcia punished Ludwigsburg’s mistakes and were ahead 47:37 at the break.

Jeff Roberson led the hosts to within three points at the beginning of the third period, Ludwigsburg now allowed second chances to throw the score less frequently and reduced the lead to 58:64 before the final period. There, the Bundesliga basketball team had no answer to Murcia’s Troy Caupain and his three-pointer; four minutes before the end of the game, the Spanish club had pulled away to a 15-point difference.
