Métis Couture Shines at Eastern Canada Judo Championship, Secures Spot on Quebec Team

JUDO. Métis Couture, originally from Saint-Alfred, could not have had a better weekend in terms of performance than the one experienced on April 21 and 22. The 16-year-old athlete returns to Beauce with a collection of three gold medals at the Eastern Canada championship and a selection on the Quebec team.

The Beauceron judoka finished in first position among the U18 and seniors. She also won the Open tournament, open to all categories. The Eastern Canada championship was held on April 21 and 22 in Edmundston, New Brunswick. As for his selection on the Quebec team, Métis Couture will join his good childhood friend Charline Bourque, also a native of Saint-Alfred.

Several other athletes from the Judo Beauce club distinguished themselves last weekend. The group collected 25 medals in two days of competition. Magalie Hins (2nd), Chase Carvalho (2nd), Antoine Maheux (3rd), William Maheux (2nd), Édouard Soulière-Fabre (2nd and 3rd), Mathéo Salazar (3rd) and Leah Michaud (3rd) also finished on the podium at the Eastern Canada championship.

Adam Bouliane, Bryan Caissy, Adam Maurice, Léo Quirion, Hugo Lachapelle, Marius Duval, Éva Quirion, Travis Lachance, Zach Busque and Damien Gauthier won a gold medal on April 22 at the Beauport inter-regional, reserved for categories U10 to U14. Étienne and Arnaud Poulin finished in second place and Loïk Trudel finished third at the same competition.
