Messina-Potenza: save the category and the stadium

The “San Filippo-Franco Scoglio” match in Messina was a very important match between the local Giallorossi and Potenza, both teams suspended on the waterline of the playout zone, therefore playing for important points with a view to survival.

The view of the stands is good, even if this system, designed and built in the days of Serie A, is really too distracting and the approximately four thousand spectators end up losing much of their visual impact. Even more penalizing is perhaps the away sector, which is also oversized compared to the category but where the high windows that delimit it are what penalizes the fans most of all, ending up constituting a sort of sound barrier compared to the chants raised by the away fans.

In this specific case, the beautiful presence of Potenza pays for the choice to place itself in the lower part of the sector, further suffering the shielding of the plexiglass. However, they make up for it in a big way with colour, offering a continuous waving of flags, torches, smoke bombs and even some bombs. Not an easy trip for them, honored in the best possible way.

Excellent people from Messina, excellent clapping, excellent choirs. After the last home match which was a bit subdued, this time they cheered well, greeting the last match of the season at home with a performance with few flaws. The highest point is “He who doesn’t jump is a Catanian” while several banners against the club and against the Municipality can be seen, guilty of having left the stadium in total neglect and in need of a major overhaul before the situation gets out of hand. Towards the eightieth minute, the Messina players roll up all their pieces and concentrate on a dispute against the owner Sciotto.

On the pitch it ends with a 2-2 draw which for the Sicilian Giallorossi means mathematical salvation, while it allows Potenza to still stay out of the brawl but a final without uncertainties will be necessary to save the category.
