Merrell Skyrunner® World Series 2024 stage two, Calamorro SkyRace in the name of Roberto Delorenzi (Brooks Running) and Sara Alonso (Asics) who went on to win by force with the new time records of the race.
The participants traveled 27.5 kilometers with 2,270 meters of altitude difference, overcoming extremely technical and rocky descents. Immediately after the start they had to face the climb to Monte Calamorro (731 metres); a 3.76 km sprint with 650 meters of positive altitude difference to the summit.
Male and female records
Before the race, expectations were high. Good weather, an elite line-up of runners and a 250 euro bonus for anyone who broke the course record provided the right stimuli. The previous record of Antonio Martinez (2:39:01) and the excellent finish time of Sara Alonso (3:00:08) have literally collapsed.
For the men, Roberto Delorenzi clocked 2 hours 25 minutes and 40 seconds, 14 minutes less than the previous record. Not to be outdone, Sara Alonso managed to beat her own by finishing in an impressive time of 2 hours, 59 minutes and 08 seconds.
Delorenzi led the race from the start, setting a fast pace and never giving up. Behind the athlete Brooks, Antonio Martínez (Asics) crossed the finish line in 2 hours 34 minutes and 47 seconds, with the Italian Luca del Pero (Scarpa) finishing in third place, in 2 hours 36 minutes and 55 seconds. All three beat the previous record highlighting the excellent quality of this year’s event. for us also Lorenzo Rota Martir 14th and Danilo Brambilla 15th.
In the women’s category Júlia Font (Brooks Running) and Sara Alonso (Asics) put on a show by attacking in the last part of the route and repeating their success in 2022. Also on the podium with her were Julia Font Gomez (Brooks) 3 hours and 42 seconds and Naiara Irigoyen (A4XKM) who closed in 3 hours 9 minutes, 30 seconds.
The next stop of the Merrell Skyrunner® World Series will be Sunday 5 May with the Skyrace® Des Matheysins which will take place in Saint Honoré (France).
