The current sports director of the Visma-Lease a bike team, Merijn Zeeman, has announced his departure at the end of the season. He found a new position with the AZ Alkmaar club (Netherlands).
Going from sports director of a cycling team to technical director of a football team. An atypical route, which the Dutchman Merijn Zeeman decided to follow.
Active within the Dutch team, Visma-Lease, since 2012, Merijn Zeeman took over as sporting director in 2017 and was one of the great architects of the rise to power of the team of Wout van Aert and Jonas Vingegaard .
In 2023, the “wasps” successively won the Giro, the Tour de France and the Vuelta with three different riders (Roglic, Vingegaard, Kuss). A historic trilogy and an incredible tour de force.
