Media: Salzburg coach Struber before exit

A change of coach is looming at series champions Red Bull Salzburg. After the “Bulls”’ 3-1 defeat at LASK on Friday in the Bundesliga, head coach Gerhard Struber is likely to be faced with a transfer fee. This was reported by “Krone” and “Salzburger Nachrichten”, among others. Salzburg have scheduled a short-term press conference for Monday (1 p.m.) with sports director Bernhard Seonbuchner and managing director Stephan Reiter.

Struber only took over as coach in Wals-Siezenheim in the summer. At the start of the season, the 47-year-old Kuchler replaced Matthias Jaissle, who had surprisingly moved to al-Ahli in Saudi Arabia. At the time, Struber was considered an internal solution because he came from the Red Bull cosmos and had held various functions in Salzburg, Liefering and New York. Under his aegis, however, Salzburg did not return to its usual dominance of previous years.

Until recently, everything in the championship looked like another title for the Struber team, especially after the 1-0 win on Easter Sunday at Sturm Graz. But in the following three games they were eliminated in the cup after a 3:4 home defeat against Graz and in the league a 1:1 home defeat against Rapid as well as the defeat in Linz. This means that the planned title defense in the championship is shaky, as Salzburg and Sturm are now tied in first and second place with the same points. Red Bull is currently ahead because of its better record in direct duels with the Styrians.
