Mbappé’s end at PSG is bitter. I am the coach, I decide, said Enrique after the star substitution

The last months at Paris Saint-Germain have been a difficult time for Kylian Mbappé. At the club that made him a star, he falls down the hierarchy and ceases to be indispensable. He last got just about an hour of play in Sunday’s Le Classique derby against Marseille, which his team managed to win 2-0, and it was clear he was grossly unhappy with his situation when he was substituted. After the match, he added a symbolic photo to his Instagram profile, in which he is pictured leaving the pitch in the rain and wearing the captain’s armband.

At the same time, limited playing space has become a new reality for Mbappé. Luis Enrique is gradually putting the star of the team, who is associated with a move to Real Madrid, behind him and responds only curtly to questions from the press. “Same song all the time. It’s so boring. I’m the coach and I make the decisions,” he said on Sunday night when asked about the 25-year-old Frenchman’s substitution.

The Spanish strategist prides himself on making decisions mainly based on what is best for his team. “I am trying to do the best I can for PSG. I will do so until the last day in Paris,” he added. At the same time, some experts and well-known personalities describe the treatment of Mbappé as undignified and depreciating the player’s legacy in the club. The French international joined PSG from AS Monaco in the 2017/18 season and has played 298 competitive games for them so far.

Even French journalist Daniel Riolo didn’t take napkins in his interview for After Foot. “Enrique’s communication is meaningless. During his career, he has not shown that he is a coaching genius. Without Mbappé, he is depriving himself of the opportunity to be better,” he did not spare the former coach of Barcelona or the Spanish national team.

At the same time, Enrique regularly tries to calm down the situation with Mbappé and claims that he believes that the offensive ace could continue to stay in the team. In an interview with Prime Video, which took place before the match against Marseille, he said that until Mbappé officially announces his decision, it is not done yet. “I still have hope that Kylian will stay at PSG. What if we win four trophies? Would he not stay?” the coach of the big French club thought.
