Rome, 21 April (Adnkronos) – The PD leadership gives the green light to the lists for the European elections. Elly Schlein will be the head of the list in the Center and in the Islands, Stefano Bonaccini in the North East, Cecilia Strada in the North West and Lucia Annunziata in the South. “Beautiful and very strong lists”, with “openness, experience, innovation, militancy, hospitality, independent personalities” , said the dem secretary who formalized her candidacy in the Directorate: “I am also available to lend a hand, trying to give a boost to this team”.
Schlein immediately clarified that he is taking to the field “with a spirit of service. I will then be here in the daily confrontation in Parliament with Giorgia Meloni and her wicked choices against Italy”. No Brussels, in short. But, for once, it was not the composition of the lists that took center stage in the Directorate, closed by the secretary on the eve of the meeting in contact with the various souls of the party. What sparked discussion was the inclusion of Schlein’s name in the symbol. The party president Stefano Bonaccini formally proposed the change (“only for the European elections”) to the attention of the Management, after the Organization manager Igor Taruffi had done so in the secretariat.
But already in that context it was understood that the issue would cause discussion, given that it aroused the doubts of Debora Serracchiani, Peppe Provenzano and Marco Sarracino. “In the European elections you vote for the Democratic Party, not the secretary. The name in the symbol was inserted only once, in the political elections, with Veltroni. Even with Bersani and Renzi such a proposal was rejected”, was the reflection made.

Gianni Cuperlo intervened immediately: “The name in the symbol is for monocratic elections, in the European elections you have to vote for the Democratic Party”, said the Dem MP who then turned to the secretary reminding her that she is not Giorgia Meloni. On the same line, several members of the Dem parliament, from different areas: Stefano Lepri and Silvia Costa, Marina Sereni, Valeria Valente, Susanna Camusso, Piero Fassino, Anna Maria Furlan, Paola De Micheli, Laura Boldrini.
In favor of Andrea De Maria and Francesco Boccia, who explained: “I think that the name of the secretary in the symbol serves, for these elections, to compare herself with Giorgia Meloni and to guarantee that added value that everyone recognizes in her. I have always been in favor of her multiple candidacies in all constituencies”. Meanwhile, among the corridors of the Nazarene there were exchanges of accusations and reprisals of responsibility regarding the proposal of the name in the symbol. Whose idea was it? “Certainly not Bonaccini. He just announced it”, swore a loyalist.
Thus, in the replies, it was the secretary herself who clarified. Schlein underlined the “added value” of her presence for the Dem lists. For this reason, you continued, a candidacy was thought of “in all the constituencies”. A hypothesis on the table which was then overcome in the list construction phase, to reduce the constituencies for the secretary to two. As an “alternative”, the leader’s reasoning continued, the proposal to insert the name into the symbol was born. In short, to guarantee “added value”.
(Adnkronos) – That said, the secretary herself proposed an “in-depth study” on the symbolic issue, with a separate vote in order to give the green light to the lists today. The Management then approved the lists (with some abstentions), while the symbolic question remained suspended.
For a short time, however, because tomorrow at 4pm the deadline for presentation to the Interior Ministry expires. How will it end? A long-time Democratic MP has few doubts: “With the name Schlein in the symbol. The alternative is the presence of the leader secretary everywhere, but there was an agreement on this and the Management has already voted on the lists”.
