Six participations, a fourth place to start (with two falls), two second places and therefore three successes for the flying Dutchman, clearly the greatest Flemish rider of his generation. Arriving on the cobbles of the Tour of Flanders in 2019 after crushing the cyclo-cross, “MVDP” learned and since then he has won every two years (2020, 2022 and 2024). At only 29 years old, Van der Poel is already joining legends.

2023 world champion, the leader of Alpecin-Deceuninck added a touch of class to his victory with this rainbow jersey worn in the firmament in Flanders. No one has won the Ronde with this legendary coat on their back since Peter Sagan in 2016. In this list of immense champions, we obviously only find legends: Louison Bobet in 1955, Rik van Looy in 1962, Eddy Merckx in 1975, Tom Boonen in 2006 and therefore the Slovak, eight years ago.

Proof of his excellence on the Tour of Flanders, the world champion is the first rider in history to finish five editions in a row on the podium.

Next week at Paris-Roubaix, Mathieu Van der Poel will defend his title and attempt for the third time in his career a magnificent double after his success in the Tour of Flanders. Here too, it would be historic before returning to Belgium to try to be, from 2025, the sole record holder for victories in the “Ronde”.
