Marta Kostyuk somewhat surprisingly reached the final at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix 2024. She beat Marketa Vondrousova 7:6 (2), 6:2.

Kostyuk is continuing her strong 2024: She was already in the final in San Diego, in the semi-finals in Indian Wells and in the quarter-finals at the Australian Open. The first title of this season is now to be won in Stuttgart.
Kostyuk made it to the semi-finals as a marathon woman; it took her more than eight and a half hours for her three successes this week (against Laura Siegemund, Qinwen Zheng, Coco Gauff). This time it was faster – with 1 hour 34 minutes of playing time.
Although she made it more exciting than planned. She missed a 5-1 lead in the first set, Wimbledon winner Vondrousova saved herself in the tiebreak. In the second set, however, she played through her lead to win.
Kostyuk beat three top 10 players in Stuttgart
“That’s tennis, anything can happen. But I managed to get through the match in two sets,” said Kostyuk, referring to her lost lead in the first round – she doesn’t need any extra excitement in her life. “I’ve had enough.”
Kostyuk also achieved something rare in Stuttgart, beating three top ten players in Zheng, Gauff and now Vondrousova. “Many people don’t know this, I initially had a record of 0:14 against top ten people. So I had to catch up.”
Kostyuk had to fend off five match points against Zheng.
Thanks to the strong Stuttgart week, Kostyuk is climbing to new heights in the WTA rankings: she is currently in 21st place in the live rankings, higher than ever before. With a win in the final she would crack the top 20.
In the final, the 21-year-old is, somewhat surprisingly, not against the two-time winner and defending champion Iga Swiatek, but against Elena Rybakina. They had inflicted their first defeat on the world number one in the first semi-final in the Porsche Arena.
