Macron: France has “Plan B and C” for opening

France has alternatives to the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games on July 26 on the Seine if necessary for security reasons, according to President Emmanuel Macron. The government recently imposed the highest security level in the country due to the conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine and after warnings of terrorist attacks.

Macron said on Monday that he was confident that the planned Games ceremony, with a large crowd around the river through the capital, would be a great success. But France is not naive. “If we believe there are security risks, then we have a Plan B and even a Plan C.”

One possibility would be to limit the ceremony to Paris’ central Trocadero square with a view of the Eiffel Tower, Macron said. Another would be to move the event to the Stade de France stadium.
