With the aim of supporting local athletes through monthly aid, the 40 beneficiaries of the disciplines of swimming, taekuondo, cycling, judo, skating, bowling, aerobic gymnastics, boxing, archery, tennis, triathlon and golf, within the framework of the Municipal Program of “Scholarships to support amateur athletes in Olympic individual sports.”
They were selected, among all the applicants, by the “Municipal Commission for Awarding Scholarships to Support Amateur Athletes in Olympic Individual Sports”, as established by Ordinance No. 7562.
Present to deliver this contribution were the mayor of the city Damián Bernarte, the president of the Deliberative Council of Mario Ortega, councillors, tribunes and municipal authorities.
“This is an event that I particularly like a lot, which has to do with athletes who make a great sacrifice to be able to carry out their activities, becoming a program that is protected by a municipal law that really fills us with pride, because “It is not common for it to be carried out in other municipalities in the country”highlighted Damián Bernarte.
Likewise, the president highlighted that the municipality is making an investment of 22 and a half million pesos and that “The scholarship program consists of two levels of categorization, on the one hand level I, which includes athletes who attend national competitions, while level II is for international competitions”.
For his part, the Sports Director, Juan Iturburu, stated: “I want to congratulate each and every one of the athletes who have received their scholarship, this is a way to accompany the effort they make year after year. “We are very happy to continue delivering this contribution for the second consecutive year.”.
