Linz’s dry spell should end in Altach

SCR Altach and Blau-Weiß Linz will play two groundbreaking duels on Saturday (5 p.m.) in Altach and on Tuesday in Linz. The Vorarlbergers could shake off the Upper Austrians, who are three points behind, in the fight to stay in the Admiral Bundesliga with their first home win in 2024. The newcomer, who is five points ahead of bottom team Austria Lustenau, wants to improve his situation with points.

BW Linz has been without a win in twelve games since the derby win against LASK on November 12th. After the 1:2 defeat against WSG Tirol last weekend, the blue and whites want to show a different face in the “Ländle”. “It is important to show a reaction to the unsatisfactory performance against Tyrol. It will be about running more than your opponent, accepting duels and showing the absolute will to win. If we don’t demonstrate these basic virtues, then we will have a hard time winning,” said coach Gerald Scheiblehner.

The Linzers also have challenges outside the pitch. The departure of regular player Tobias Koch to Austria Klagenfurt is already certain, and several other contracts are expiring. “We have presented some players with really good offers for our standards, so we are waiting for decisions,” said sports director Christoph Schösswendter, who is confident. “The sports budget will tend to increase slightly compared to the first year of the Bundesliga. Our aim is that the quality of the team is higher than this season. “We certainly don’t forget that we still have a lot of homework to do this season,” he said.
