Linda Noskova Upsets Ostapenko in Stuttgart Tournament

Ostapenko, who is ranked tenth in the WTA ranking and seeded eighth in the tournament, lost 3-6, 1-6 to Czech Linda Noskova, who is ranked 31st in the WTA.

Ostapenko started the match with a serve, losing the first four games, and her service games were “dry”.

The Latvian tennis player managed to win the eighth game, using the third of three break points in a row, but she lost the next game.

Noskova started the second set with a serve, winning the first five games. Having played one break point in the seventh game, the Czech finished the game with the first match point

The Latvian tennis player earned one world ranking point for her performance in Germany.

The two tennis players had previously met on the court only once, last year in the first round of the Birmingham “WTA 250” series tournament, the Latvian tennis player was superior in three sets.

Ostapenko has won two titles this season and has a 17-7 win-loss record, while Noskova has won 15 of her 21 matches.

Her most successful start to the season was in Australia, when she reached the semifinals of the WTA 500 series in Brisbane and the quarterfinals of the Australian Open.

At the Miami tournament at the end of May, both Ostapenko and Noskova lost in the 1/16 finals.

Noskova will meet German Angelina Kerber (WTA 332) or British tennis player Emma Radukan (WTA 303) in the round of 16.

Last year at the tournament in Stuttgart, Ostapenko did not make it past the second round, losing to the Tunisian Onsa Jabeira, but Noskova is playing in Stuttgart for the first time.

Ostapenko will not play in the doubles tournament.

The tournament in Stuttgart takes place on clay courts.
