Limited Spanish Presence: A Look at the Monte Carlo Masters 1000 Participation Record

Spanish men’s tennis had equaled a negative participation record in this edition of the Monte Carlo Masters 1000. Only four tennis players present in the individual draw, something that since 1989 had only occurred in 2019.

After three days of competition, Jaume Munar and Alejandro Davidovich have already said goodbye to the competition at the first try. Davidovich, a TMS finalist in the 2022 edition, gave way this Tuesday to Sebastian Korda, 6-1 and 6-2. Tomorrow Korda will be the first rival of Jannik Sinner, second favorite in the contest and first in the ranking in 2024.

Jorge Aguirre’s pupil, who had just been eliminated from Estoril due to a dental infection, has the same number of victories (8) as defeats this season. And he hasn’t won a match on the Country Club courts precisely since the final two seasons ago.

From Monte Carlo to Godó

The man from Malaga, who was training last week on the clay of the Puente Romano Tennis Club in Marbella, has his next appointment at the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell (April 15 to 21). There he will have to defend the quarterfinals from the last edition (90 points).
