“Liepāja” will meet “Ogri” today in the second match of the “Pafbet” Latvian Basketball League (LBL) quarterfinal series. The game in Liepāja Olympic Center will start at 17:00, it will be broadcast live on the “Sportacentrs.com” platform.
On Wednesday, in the first match, the Ogrians celebrated an 89:81 victory, taking a 1-0 lead in the series to three victories. The third match of the series is scheduled for April 16, but if necessary, more matches to determine the semi-finalists will be played on April 19 and 22.
In the main tournament of the Latvian-Estonian Basketball League (LIBL), Ogrėnians accumulated a balance of 17-13 and ranked seventh, and in the playoffs, they lost 0-2 to “Prometey” in the quarter-finals. On the other hand, “Liepāja” took 11th place with 11 wins and 19 losses, without entering the “play-off”.
In the first meeting between the two teams, “Ogre” had a convincing victory with 86:62, while in the second match Liepaja were superior with 75:61. “Ogre” and “Liepāja” also competed in the quarter-finals of the Latvian Cup, where “Liepāja” basketball players celebrated their success in two matches.
In the second quarter-final, “Rīgas Zeļļi” defeated “Valmiera Glass”/”Vidzeme Augstskolas” in the first game 87:65, which was superior in the second game with 96:95, drawing the series 1-1.
“VEF Riga” and “Ventspils” have already secured a place in the semi-finals.
Last year, the basketball players of “VEF Rīga” became the champions, beating “Ventspili” 4-1 in the final, while “Liepāja” won 3-1 over “Ogri” in the fight for bronze.
