On Monday, Clara Lassaux (BWF 157) lost her first round in Saarbrücken in two sets (21-14 and 21-16) against the Frenchwoman Rosy Oktavia Pancasari (BWF 86). Tan was free in the first round.

Among the men, Julien Carraggi (BWF 42), the eighth seed, was also exempt from the first round. His opponent in the second round, the Czech Jan Louda (BWF 54), forfeited. The 23-year-old Brussels resident is thus directly in the last sixteen, in which he will face the winner of the match between the Finn Joakim Oldorff (BWF 68) and the Italian Giovanni Toti (BWF 71).

The thirtieth European Badminton Championship focuses on the qualification period for the Games (‘Race to Paris’). It ends on April 28. The key is for the players to be among the best 35 who will earn their Olympic place based on the rankings, which will be made official on April 30 (taking into account the limit of two athletes/pairs per country in each event) . Carraggi (19th) and Tan (23rd) are currently among the top 35 and have their ticket for Paris virtually in their pocket.
