Leroy Sané Reassured After Substitution in Bayern Munich’s Quarter-Final Draw

Leroy Sané was initially annoyed about his substitution in FC Bayern Munich’s 2-2 draw in the quarter-final first leg at Arsenal. A statement from coach Thomas Tuchel reassured the 28-year-old.

“I always want to play as long as I can and leave everything on the pitch. But Thomas explained it to me, he wanted to take it easy on me, everything was fine,” Sané told Bild.

The German international had put in a strong performance in the game in London, opening Munich’s first goal from Serge Gnabry and winning the penalty before Harry Kane’s second goal. Nevertheless, the offensive player was substituted for Kingsley Coman in the 66th minute.

Sané, who has nine goals and 13 assists in 38 competitive games so far this season, then complained that he was taken off the pitch by Tuchel “too early”. Now he is “top motivated again and ready for the coming weeks”.

The Munich team continues in the Bundesliga on Saturday (3:30 p.m.) with the game against 1. FC Köln. The second leg in the premier class against Arsenal will take place on Wednesday (9 p.m.).
