Lennard Kämna in intensive care after accident in Tenerife

German professional cyclist Lennard Kämna suffered “numerous injuries” in his training accident in Tenerife on Wednesday, but is in a stable condition. This was announced by his Bora-hansgrohe team. “He is awake, responsive and able to communicate. (…) He is receiving very good care in the hospital in Tenerife and will be monitored in the intensive care unit in the coming days. Members of the family and the team are with him,” it said.

According to the German racing team, an oncoming vehicle gave way to Kämna when turning. The 27-year-old from Bremen was with the training group at the time. No other drivers or supervisors were involved in the accident.

“We are relieved that Lennard’s condition has stabilized after this serious accident and that he is doing well given the circumstances. The entire team feels for him and we all wish him a speedy recovery,” said team boss Ralph Denk: “On the team side, we will continue to do everything necessary to ensure that he fully recovers from this accident. That’s all that matters now – all other questions don’t arise for us at the moment.”
