Laura Siegemund Withdraws from Doubles Competition Due to Injury, Ending Title Hopes at Stuttgart Tournament

Tennis player Laura Siegemund was injured and had to give up her hope of winning the title in the doubles competition at the clay court tournament in Stuttgart.

The organizers announced that the 36-year-old Metzinger will not be taking part in the double semi-finals on Saturday due to an injury to her lower back.

Siegemund was in second place with her Czech doubles partner Barbora Krejcikova. The duo won confidently 6:1, 6:3 against the Russians Liudmila Samsonova and Diana Schneider in the quarter-finals on Thursday.

Siegemund has been playing with Krejcikova since this season; the Czech was already out this year with an injury and an infection.

Tennis: Eikeri and Neel without a fight in the final

“Of course, the year hasn’t gone as well as we imagined for us so far,” Siegemund said in Stuttgart. After their cancellation, the Norwegian Ulrikke Eikeri and Ingrid Neel from Estonia are in the final without a fight.

Siegemund was the last remaining German hopeful at the indoor event. In the singles, the 2017 tournament winner lost her opening match against the Ukrainian Marta Kostjuk on Wednesday in three sets after a long fight.
