Latvian referees will officiate matches at the IIHF World Championship in the Czech Republic

Latvian referees Andris Ansons and Dāvis Zunde will officiate matches at the men’s IIHF World Championship for the fourth year in a row. This year the championship will take place in Prague and Ostrava.

Andris Ansons has previously worked at the Beijing Olympic Games, as well as three higher division U20 WCs, and one higher division U18 WC. Ansons was fully active in the German top league (DEL) for the second season. In both seasons, also getting the opportunity to serve the finals of the league.

Meanwhile, Dāvis Zunde has previously worked at the highest level in three elite world championships. Since 2021, Riga has also hosted the 2021 U18 World Championship in the USA. This season, Optibet has fully served the hockey league games. Served 26 regular season championship games and 12 playoff matches in the OHL regular season, including all five OHL finals.

At the last world championship in Tampere and Riga, both referees also served the elimination matches, working in the quarter-finals of the championship. It was the first time that two judges from Latvia received such an honor at the same time.
