Lasmanis will not be able to help the Latvian 3×3 basketball team in the first OS qualification tournament

On Friday, the Latvian 3×3 basketball team with Agni Čavaras, Franci Gustavs Lāci, Nauri Miezi and Zigmāras Raimo will start the qualifying tournament for the Paris Olympic Games.

On the last day of submission of applications, the head coach of the Latvian 3×3 national team, Raimonds Feldmanis, corrected the previously registered team composition for the tournament and due to injury, Lasmanis will not be able to play, who will be replaced by Čavars.

“Today, while warming up before the start of training, Kārlis felt pain, could not continue the lesson and was taken to the hospital for tests. The seriousness of the injury will be judged after the examinations, but it is clear that he cannot play in this tournament,” said Feldmanis.

“Lasmani will be replaced by Agnis Čavars. This four took part in the very first test tournaments in France in February and recently played in Lithuania. In today’s training, we renewed cooperation in the attack and made sure that Agnis’ experience and athleticism will definitely help in the defense. In the evening, we will watch the video and emphasize the main things in the game plan,” continued the coach .

On Friday, the Latvians will play against Mongolia and New Zealand, while a match with Egypt is scheduled for Saturday. The two best teams will enter the semi-finals, where they will compete against one of the teams from Group A – Hong Kong, the Netherlands, Austria or Switzerland. Only the best of the eight teams will get a ticket to the Paris Games.

If the Latvian national team fails to win in the first qualifying tournament, the next opportunity will be in the tournament that will take place from May 3 to 5 in the Japanese city of Utsunomiya, while the last chance to get an Olympic ticket will be from May 16 to 19 in the Hungarian city of Debrecen.
