Next May the grand national final of the Intercollegiate Games will be held in Valledupar. Huila will have representation with more than 100 athletes. One of them will be the Laboyan Paloma Vargas, who normally competes in Jiu-jitsu, but in this national competition she will compete in the judo discipline.
“Right now I am focused on the national final of the Intercollegiate Games, there I will be competing in the judo discipline. “God willing, I will be in a camp in Bogotá in order to prepare myself in the best way and raise the name of the department.” exclaimed the athlete.
Main objective
In addition to the national final of the Intercollegiate Games, another of Paloma Vargas’ main objectives will be the Jiu-jitsu Youth World Cup, which will take place from October 28 to November 4 in Greece. It must be taken into account that the Huila native was already present at a World Cup last year, in the United Arab Emirates.
“One of the main objectives is the World Youth Jiu-jitsu Championships to be held in Greece. In this contest I will participate in two categories. As far as preparation is concerned, months before the competition I am going to travel to Bogotá to the intensity camps. The truth is that I am very excited to be world champion, it is one of my great dreams, last year I attended a World Cup, it was a wonderful experience, but now I want to fight for a greater goal, which is the medal,” remarked the Laboyan athlete.
More international events
If everything goes well, it would not be the only World Cup that Paloma Vargas would attend. If she obtains financial resources, the woman from Huila would travel to Abu Dhabi to participate in another international competition.
“Trusting in God, after the World Cup in Greece, we will travel to Abu Dhabi to compete in another youth world championship. “This event as such is not confirmed, we do not know if we will have the financial resources, but we hope that we can participate,” he stressed.
“Apart from that, I am invited to Australia to go train for 3 months in a martial arts camp. There I would train in Jiu-jitsu, judo and Greco-Roman wrestling, because those are the base sports for the practice of martial arts. “It would be very good to be able to attend since I would learn many things in the sports field, but this requires financial resources,” Vargas complemented.
National events
Finally, in this year 2024 and in addition to the national final of the Intercollegiate Games, the young Huila athlete Paloma Vargas will compete in some national events, especially those that give her points to improve in terms of ranking and thus qualify for international events. , among them, worldwide.
“Obviously we will also participate in national events, especially those that help us score points in the ranking,” Vargas finished.
