KSC scores, Hertha hits back

Karlsruhe’s right-back Marco Thiede scored the first goal in the Wildpark in the 16th minute after a corner. Hertha struck back shortly afterwards, Haris Tabakovic used a precise assist from Fabian Reese to equalize (23′).

Igor Matanovic put KSC back in the lead shortly before the half-time whistle (45′). Marvon Wanitzek (77th) made the preliminary decision with the goal to make it 3-1. The second goal by Tabakovic, who scored from the penalty spot (87th), came too late for the Berliners.

Karlsruhe fan had an accident in a fall

The normally atmospheric duel between the two friendly clubs was initially unusually quiet in the fully occupied wildlife park in the stands. A Karlsruhe fan fell from the parapet and had to receive medical attention. The KSC later gave the all-clear, but with the exception of the three goals, the fans remained silent for long stretches of the entertaining first half.

The game remained even after the break, but KSC was the more efficient team. Shortly after Reese missed the possible equalizer with a shot on the top edge of the crossbar, Wanitzek decided the game in Karlsruhe’s favor.
