Kodokan athletes shine at A1 Junior Judo Championship and Regional Judo Kata Championship

The A1 Junior Judo Championship got off to a good start Gabriele Adorno at the Palavesuvio in Naples, in the heavyweight category: having missed the first round as the top seed, he entered the match in the quarterfinals, beating the Emilian Gianluca Bellucci (San Mamolo) by ippon. In the semi-final, however, he was stopped by Emiliano Rossi (Castelverde Roma). In the final for bronze, after a well-played match, he lost due to the sum of (very questionable) penalties against Francesco Di Flavio, Rossi’s teammate from Lazio, narrowly missing the podium. With fifth national place in the A1 series, the Kodokan athlete earned the first dan black belt for competitive merit, no small satisfaction, despite the bitterness for a podium that was certainly within his reach: the title went to Youssef Boutrig (Europaradise Roma), who Adorno had beaten a few weeks ago in the A2 final in Turin.

Meanwhile, in Albiate, the Kodokan won two medals in the Regional Judo kata Championship, which is contested with a pairs exhibition: Elena Bertani e Elisa Varini they went on the podium for the silver in the “junokata” black belt specialty. Among the colored belts, bronze for the duo formed by Arianna Briceag e Anna Portesani.
