Kerber Falls to Raducanu in First Round Upset at Indian Wells

Kerber, who reached the round of 16 in Indian Wells a month ago and celebrated her greatest success since her return from maternity leave, was only at eye level against Raducanu at the beginning.

After an early break she hit back, but immediately conceded another one and had to clearly give up the first round. Even in the second set, Kerber did not recover from her opponent’s two early breaks.

Siegemund also lost on Wednesday against the Ukrainian Marta Kostjuk 3:6, 7:6 (7:4), 4:6. Maria was already eliminated on Tuesday against Elise Mertens from Belgium.
