Karl Geraerts certainly did not choose the easiest path in his early coaching career. After the success with Union, he moved to the turbulent Gelsenkirchen (Schalke 04), currently playing in the second level and in very troubled financial waters. After modest success on the field, there was also very nice news on a private level.
Relegation hangover and financial carnage
Schalke was relegated from the Bundesliga on the last matchday last season. This season was also dramatic for a long time, in October Karl Geraerts was appointed as the new T1, after eight match days the German cult club was in sixteenth place.
Relegation from the second Bundesliga would mean that Schalke would almost certainly lose its professional license, it was written Sky Sports earlier. The cause: a sky-high debt of 165 million euros that the club is struggling with. To eliminate this, Marc Wilmots was also appointed as sporting director.
Trial, error and private happiness
Afterwards, with trial and error, things gradually went in the right direction for the Germans. Meanwhile, Schalke is in twelfth place and with four matchdays to go, the danger of relegation seems rather limited, although not yet gone.
Yesterday, Geraerts’ troops won an important draw when they visited Elversberg. In the last five games, Schalke has only lost once (although there was only one three-pointer).
Thanks for your support tonight 💙🤍

In addition to the modest sporting successes, our compatriot also had something to celebrate off the field: son Yesse was sixteen years old and clearly has the same genes as his father:
