KAA Gent Dominates KVC Westerlo in 3-0 Victory

KAA Gent won 0-3 on Sunday evening against KVC Westerlo. The Buffalos still had a bone to pick with the Gamecocks after the salon draw.

Westerlo took on KAA Gent at home on Sunday evening. Bart Goor surprised at Westerlo with Haidara in the starting line-up. Hein Vanhaezebrouck chose the same eleven as against Standard.

The match started well for both teams, but it soon became clear that Ghent would have the upper hand. The Buffaloes were the better team.

Westerlo mainly tried with the long ball, but often got nowhere with it. The Buffalos deservedly took the lead after 22 minutes of play after a goal by Gandelman.

Two minutes later, Haidara’s header was poor, allowing Tissoudali to extend the lead.

Haidara was allowed to start again after a long time, but that did not go as planned. He received his second yellow card before half time and was allowed to take a shower.

Even after the break, KAA Gent remained the better team, without really creating many chances, but the home team did not do that either. So the Buffalos weren’t great, but they shouldn’t have been against Westerlo.

Bolat took down Tissoudali after which Smet immediately pointed to the spot. After a VAR intervention, he ultimately decides not to give a penalty. Reserve goalkeeper Nick Gillekens did receive a red card.

In injury time Gandelman made it 0-3. Surdez gave the lead, Bolat was in between for a while, but Gandelman followed well and was able to secure the win.

This victory means KAA Gent remains comfortably first in the Europe Play-offs. The Buffaloes have 30 points. KVC Westerlo, in turn, remains in last place with 15 points.
