During the week, a piece of news caused a stir in German handball: DHB star Juri Knorr will probably leave the Bundesliga. In the first game after the announcement, the playmaker led his Rhein-Neckar Löwen to victory, unimpressed. Meanwhile, HSV is making a big comeback against Kiel.

THW Kiel gave up a victory in the small northern derby against HSV Hamburg in the handball Bundesliga. The record champions only managed a 28:28 (16:15) in front of 10,173 spectators in the Hanseatic city. The best throwers were Casper Mortensen with nine goals for Hamburg and Niclas Ekberg with seven goals for THW. The celebrated hero was Hamburg’s right winger Frederik Bo Andersen, who equalized shortly before the end. Immediately beforehand, HSVH goalkeeper Johannes Bitter had parried an Ekberg seven-meter penalty.

The “Zebras” had only slowly found their rhythm. In the 16th minute, goalkeeper Samir Bellahcene saved a Mortensen counterattack. Immediately afterwards, Ekberg scored to make it 7:7. Elias Ellefsen á Skipagötu then gave the guests the lead for the first time at 12:11 (23rd).

At the beginning of the second half, the second THW goalkeeper provided the necessary support. Tomas Mrkva fended off three balls in a row. Despite being outnumbered, Ekberg extended the lead to three goals for the first time with his 22:19 (40th). The Hamburgers were slowly running out of strength to assert themselves against the physically strong defense of the guests. At 26:21 (48th), the game seemed to be decided, but HSVH turned things up a notch and managed to win their first point against Kiel since returning to the Bundesliga.

At the same time, Juri Knorr delivered a strong performance with his Rhein-Neckar Löwen winning 35:29 (19:16). The director led his team to victory over the relegation candidates with ten goals. After a completely disappointing season, the cup winners have long since lost any chance of a decent placing.

Knorr himself was in the spotlight during the week because of big news: As several media reported, the national player will be leaving the Bundesliga for the top Danish club Aalborg. There should be a high transfer fee in order to lure Knorr to Denmark before his contract expires in summer 2026.
