Jürgen Klopp and Liverpool are running out of gas

After the exit from the Europa League, Jürgen Klopp quickly switched back to attack mode. “Now we can concentrate on the league and that’s what we will do. If we like, that was the start of the rest of the season with a good result and a good performance. And that’s how we see it,” said the coach of the English first division soccer club Liverpool FC on Tuesday evening.

His “Reds” won the quarter-final second leg at Atalanta Bergamo 1-0, but that wasn’t enough after the surprising 3-0 defeat in the first leg at their home stadium at Anfield Road.

“Really great first half”

“We tried, we wanted to move forward. But whoever beats us 3-0 at home deserves to go through,” said Klopp. Mohamed Salah quickly gave Liverpool the lead with a hand penalty (7th minute) and fueled hopes of a comeback. “We played a really great first half,” said Klopp on RTL.

Liverpool had the advantage in terms of play in the period that followed, but were unable to take advantage of their opportunities. “And we didn’t create enough chances either. And then we ran out of gas a little bit. It’s mid-April, the boys have a few kilometers on the clock,” said Klopp, who is now fully concentrating with his team on the championship fight before he leaves the club after nine years after the season.

In the exciting title race, Liverpool are third, two points behind league leaders Manchester City. “Now the Premier League is coming, we will now sink our teeth into this story. That’s the plan now. Back to winning ways,” announced Klopp.

There are two away games against Fulham and Everton on Sunday and Wednesday before another away game against West Ham United on April 27th. “It’s now time to close your eyes for another week and get through it. And let’s see what we can get out of it,” said Klopp.
