At the end of March 2023 there was a big bang at FC Bayern: coach Julian Nagelsmann had to leave and the club bosses replaced him with Thomas Tuchel. A good year later, the latter is already heading into his final months at FCB, while Nagelsmann has found happiness with the DFB team.

The coach took over the German national team in September 2023, and after a difficult start he seems to have recently drawn the right conclusions. The DFB team started the home European Championship year with convincing victories over France and the Netherlands.

This development, even though it has only taken place over a short period of time, is arousing desire. Nagelsmann, whose contract with the DFB runs until the end of the European Championship, was linked with a return to FC Bayern.

FC Bayern has already contacted Julian Nagelsmann

The “Kicker” confirmed in its print edition on Thursday that the national coach is one of three candidates with whom the FCB bosses have already held discussions. Ralf Rangnick, currently coach of the Austrian national team, and Roberto de Zerbi, coach at Premier League club Brighton, are also said to be part of this illustrious circle.

According to the report, there are supporters and doubters within the club among all three trainers. Opinions differ most widely at Nagelsmann. His dismissal had already caused very different reactions a year ago.

When it comes to the Italian de Zerbi, those responsible at FC Bayern are asking themselves whether he is ready for a top club. In addition to Brighton, his CV also includes Shakhtar Donetsk, Sassuolo, Benevento, Palermo, Foggia and Darfo Boario. Another issue is the language barrier.

It’s not just about speeches to the team, but also about exchanges with the club management. Ideally, this should take place without an interpreter.

Ultimately, the new coach should also be included in the squad planning and express his assessment of possible additions and departures.

Whether Nagelsmann is actually available for the job remains an open question. Because Bayern are not the only interested party. The DFB is currently trying to extend the collaboration with the national coach beyond the home European Championships.

Rudi Völler emphasizes: DFB wants to extend the contract with Julian Nagelsmann

“We already expressed before the two successful international matches that we could imagine continuing with him until the next World Cup. That would be our great wish,” confirmed DFB sports director Rudi Völler on Sky on Wednesday evening.

Nagelsmann has received “many inquiries,” but according to Völler, he appreciates the role with the national team for many reasons.

“Of course he knows that we have a good team with which we could achieve something in the next few years. Training a national team is something really special. This is the most important team we have in Germany. I think , he likes that.”

There is a certain confidence in the DFB sports director’s statements. Possibly to the chagrin of FC Bayern, who had already received a rejection from preferred candidate Xabi Alonso.

FC Schalke 04 is experiencing turbulent weeks. After 27 match days, the Knappen are only two points ahead of the relegation place and are therefore in acute danger of relegation. In the 0-0 draw against Karlsruher SC, Schalke once again missed the breakthrough.
